N.H. man dies at Gillette Stadium during Patriots game
Officials are investigating the death of a 53-year-old following an incident at Gillette Stadium during the Sept. 17, 2023 Patriots game, according to the Norfolk District Attorney.
Foxboro police and fire services responded to reports of an incident in the 300's tier, in the upper deck of the stadium, during the game Sunday night. Dale Mooney of Newmarket, New Hampshire, was in need of medical attention and taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Massachusetts where he was pronounce dead, District Attorney Michael Morrissey's office said in a release.
Other news outlets have reported a that spectators said Mooney required medical treatment after a physical altercation. WBUR has not independently confirmed this.
Morrissey's office said the matter is under investigation and no charges have been filed.
Gillette Stadium officials said they were “heartbroken” by the death of Mooney, who they described as a lifelong Patriots fan and 30-year season ticket member.
“We continue to work with local authorities to assist them with their ongoing investigation,” according to the statement. “We extend our sincerest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Dale’s family and to all those who are mourning his loss.”
