The Madness of March

Madness of MarchAlan Zaremba happily acknowledges that he enjoys going to Las Vegas during the NCAA basketball tournament, so it’s no surprise that in The Madness of March he presents the Vegas scene as happy and harmless. Where others might see alcoholics, gambling addicts, and pathetic dopes, Zaremba finds good ol’ boys looking to party the weekend away before they return to lives that would be much less interesting if said boys weren’t passionate about college basketball.

The strength of the book comes from Zaremba’s willingness to engage in conversation men whom many people would cross the street to avoid…college boys who think they’re a lot smarter than they are, boisterous men dressed in the colors of the schools from which they graduated several decades ago, drunken men incapable of constructing sentences without the world’s most versatile adjective, doomed men destined to throw good money after bad until they have none left to throw. Should you wish to avoid these guys altogether, The Madness of March is perhaps not for you.
