musicnoteMaris, Sosa and McGwire by Evan Johns (from Diamond Cuts: Triple Play, Hungry for Music, 1999)

Gary's Take: This song accurately captures the innocence…check that…the blind and dumb naiveté that characterized baseball geekdom of the late ‘90’s, at least as it applied to Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa’s once fabled and now thoroughly ridiculed 1998 homerun race. I half expect Mr. Johns to drop a new musical H bomb of drippy sentimentality about how McGwire has let everyone down, but how “America’s Game will always endure in the hearts and minds of the children.” Ugh…

Fight On by the USC Trojan Marching Band (from Fight Songs, Delta, 1989)

Gary's Take: Also included on this collection are 35 fight songs of other schools, most notably NOT the University of Tennessee.

Have a Nice Rest of Your Life by Randy Travis (from Great Divorce Songs for Him, Warner Bros., 1994)

Gary's Take: Good advice for all, even those who don’t play table tennis and those who aren’t getting a divorce.

Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland (from Copland Greatest Hits, RCA Victor, 1991)

Gary's Take: Da da da. Da da da. DA DA DA DAAAAAAAA…
Yeah, that one. We all know it.
