Music Blog 9/25/10

Baltimore Oriole by Lorez Alexandria (from This is Lorez, Beat Goes Public, 2006)

I looked for a version of this Cole Porter chestnut by Cal Ripken, Jr., Brooks Robinson or Larry Sheets, but no dice.

Harvard Square by Vance Gilbert

If the City of Cambridge thinks it’s making things better by printing Yoga moves on parking tickets, it’s got another thing coming.
Breathe in…breathe out…breathe in…breathe out…

Yogi Bear Theme (In the Style of The Cars) (from Rerun Rock, Rhino, 1989)

Boy, did Rick Ocasek miss his calling…

Joltin’ Joe Dimaggio by SF Seals (from Diamond Cuts, Vol. 1, Hungry for Music, 1997)

Not the original version of this wonderful tribute song, but a worthwhile update, sung by the fantabulous Barbara Manning, who I once taught to play Mission of Burma’s Max Ernst on guitar.

In Canada by B.J. Snowden (from Life in the USA and Canada, DeMilo Records, 1996)

The world (or at least that small fraction of it that’s actually heard BJ Snowden) seems to be of split opinion: outsider genius or meritless hack? I’ll leave it for others to decide, as I’m biased because the same question surrounds my work.
