Auburn University is the current favorite to play in the BCS National Championship game. The biggest reason for the Tigers’ success is the play of quarterback Cam Newton, the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy. But recent allegations question Newton’s eligibility. Bill and Pete Thamel of The New York Times discuss the charges against Newton and the effect they could have on Auburn’s title hopes.

The Philadelphia Spectrum, former home of the Sixers and Flyers, will be demolished later this month. The Spectrum housed three title-winning teams, two NCAA final fours, and “all kinds of smoke” at concerts from bands like the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd. WHYY’s Joel Rose reports on how Philly sports fans and memorabilia hunters are saying goodbye to the old building.
