Bill's thoughts on Jealous Hands:

Brian Barthelmes played football for a long time. The way he tells it, he had little choice. He grew up in Ohio, where, he says, there wasn't much else to do. And then there's the fact that he stands a little over 6-foot-6 and, as a player, weighed in excess of 300 pounds.

After high school, he excelled as a lineman at Virginia. When he'd finished there, he took advantage of an opportunity to play in the pros, in part, he says now, because he didn't know what else to do.

The most recent result of a passion for songs and song-writing, which Barthelmes now says always exceeded his passion for football, is a CD titled Jealous Hands. Though he didn't bring his band, Tallahassee, with him when he joined me in the studio this week, Brian obliged us with several tunes from the CD, which you can hear between the questions and answers. Additional cuts from the CD are available on our website, Onlyagame.org.

This segment aired on October 15, 2011.
