Music On Only A Game

Two of a Kind by Syd Barrett (from The Best of Syd Barrett: Wouldn't You Miss Me?, Capitol, 2001)

I would, and I do, miss Syd Barrett. I've been seeing ads around town that Roger Waters is playing Fenway Park this July, and it makes me wonder what a Syd Barrett show at that lyric little bandbox would be like. Probably fantastic, until Barrett caught a glimpse of Wally the Green Monster, who would certainly have freaked Mr. Barrett out, if he were still here whinnying with us. On the other hand, it probably would have given him at least an album's worth of inspiration.

Chess Piece Face by They Might Be Giants (from They Might Be Giants, Restless, 1993)

That guy looks like a such a pawn…

Big Mac by The Village People (from Renaissance, Scorpio, 2009)

My assumption had been that this was in no way a song about food, but it is!

Right Back Where We Started From by Maxine Nightingale (from Right Back Where We Started From, 1975, United Artists)

Ahhh, this reminds me of those heady days at Studio 54. The synthetic leisure suits. The platform shoes. The feathered hair styles. The lights. The disco beat. And 12 year old me tearing up the patterned dance floor. Wait, that was a nightmare I recently had.

Baseball Card Lover by Rockin' Ritchie Ray (from Baseball's Greatest Hits, Rhino, 1989)

Ick. I don’t like this song.

Brainpower by Freezepop (from Future Future Future Perfect, Rykodisc, 2007)

Simple and to the point. As eloquent a statement as was ever made against prog rock.
