I was never a big ELP fan, but I once invoked them as a ruse for personal gain. There was a mid-70's weekend call-in show on WBZ-FM in Boston, called "Rock Forum" or something like that. They were giving away free copies of The Rolling Stones' brand new LP, Black and Blue, and I needed one badly. So I called in. While I was on hold, I couldn’t think of a good question to ask, so when they very abruptly put me on live radio, I blurted out "Uhhhh…when are Emerson, Lake and Palmer coming to town?" The incredulous answer was "They were here last week. Where were you? Aren’t you a fan?" I was immediately disconnected, and the panel had many laughs at the expense of my tender 13 year old psyche.
