Charlie Pierce: The Week In Sports
Play
On Wednesday night, the international friendly soccer match between France and England at Wembley Stadium in London was characterized by respect and unity among fans and players alike. All in attendance took part in a singing of the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, and also observed a moment of silence to remember those lost in the attacks from last week. The day before this contest, the Netherlands was scheduled to take on Germany in a friendly, but it was called off due to a security threat. Bill Littlefield and Only A Game analyst Charlie Pierce discuss security at mass sporting events and the sports world's response to the tragedies of last Friday. Also, while Bill and Charlie may not be surprised to hear that the UConn women's basketball team is once again at the top of the rankings, the team's latest box scores are nonetheless shocking. Plus, the two discuss exactly how a recent 4:51 mile time from student Lewis Kent has earned the 22-year-old a shoe deal and a world record. (Hint: it's got something to do with beer.)
