His career spans six decades with 40 musicals and over 900 published songs to his credit. Along with the lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II, Richard Rodgers wrote some of the most popular music in the American Songbook and created a new theatrical form, the musical drama where the characters and story were as important as a good tune.
