Resume
photoIn the early 1970s, Manthia Diawara was one of many young adults living in the Western African nation of Mali, praying to Allah for a better life in the West.

They were especially lured to France — the land of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity and later to the United States the land of Freedom, opportunity and good old rock and roll. Instead, Diawara, along with many of his Western African friends and family found a west of strict immigration, witch-hunts, blatant anti-African racism and broken dreams.

Tonight, the African Experience in the west with writer, scholar and film-maker Manthia Diawara.

Manthia Diawara, Filmmaker, Professor and Director of hte Africana Studies Program and the Institute of African American Affairs at New York University and author of "We Won't Budge: An African Exile in the World"
