Filmmaker Errol Morris has an affinity for the naive and appalling. In his break-out documentary, "Fast, Cheap and Out of Control," he showed us just a few of the bizarre and passionate dwellers from the American fringe. "Thin Blue Line," exposed the crooked system which put an innocent man on death row --and helped set him free.

Now, Morris brings us "The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons From the Life of Robert S. McNamara," a study of one of the 20th century's most controversial figures. We turn the lens on the remarkable career of Errol Morris.

Guests:

Errol Morris, documentary film director and producer. His latest film is "The Fog of War."

Samantha Power, Pulitzer Prize-winning author, author of recent New York Times op-ed on Robert S. McNamara.

Michael Renov, professor in the school of Cinema-Television at the University of Southern California and author of the forthcoming book, "The Subject of Documentary."

This program aired on January 9, 2004.
