photoA two-year FBI investigation of possible espionage on the part of Israel uncovered a link to the Pentagon. Larry Franklin is an officer in the Near East and South Asia office in the Pentagon and is suspected of offering classified material to a member of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. The material in question concerned U.S. policy toward Iran.

The leak of this information sparked charges of excessive Israeli influence on Pentagon policy in the Middle East, and counter-charges of a witch hunt with anti-Semitic undertones.
