Resume
photoWriter W. "Kip" Stratton grew up in Oklahoma, a rodeo-loving boy who lost his father to the lore of the circuit. His mother took him to his first rodeo in utero. Now, he has taken to the circuit himself, to lay out the origins and culture of the rodeo.

He headed south and west from Prescott and Pecos to San Antonio and Deadwood for a rough-and-tumble tour of the rodeo world, of bull riding and barrel racing, saddle broncs and calf roping.

Hear a conversation with W. "Kip" Stratton on the home-town roots of bull riding and barrel racing, saddle bronc riding and calf roping.

Guests:

W. "Kip" Stratton, author of "Chasing the Rodeo: On Wild Rides and Big Dreams, Broken Hearts and Broken Bones, and One Man's Search for the West."

This program aired on June 17, 2005.
