Week in the News: Romney Wins, Obama Hits GOP, Syria Clashes

Romney rules.  Obama says “social Darwinism.”  The U.S. will pay rebels in Syria.  Our weekly news roundtable goes behind the headlines.

Image of the week:  18-wheeler truck trailers dancing in the sky over Texas, tossed like nothing by tornadoes.  Mother Nature rules.

In GOP primaries, it was Mitt Romney’s week to roll, in Wisconsin, Maryland, District of Columbia.  And President Obama’s week to come out swinging, right at Romney.  Radical Republicans, he says.  Social Darwinism.

We’ve got a green light for strip search from the Supreme Court.  The Muslim brotherhood aiming for the presidency in Egypt.  Real steps toward intervention in Syria.

This hour, On Point:  our weekly news roundtable goes behind the headlines.

From Tom's Reading List

Washington Post "Mitt Romney took a sharper line of attack against President Obama on Wednesday, accusing the Democratic incumbent of waging a “hide-and-seek campaign” that disguises his intentions and offers no solutions for the country’s most intransigent economic problems."

New York Magazine  "Fear not, professional bloviators and amateur political obsessives. For if we will soon have ourselves a nominee, that nominee will soon need to secure himself a running mate. Yes, that’s right, glory be: The 2012 veepstakes are at hand!"

Clarissa Ward's interview with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton  "I wanted to begin by talking about former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan’s six-point plan. During the week since Bashar al-Assad claimed to accept the plan, there’s been no let-up in the violence, and I just wanted to ask you, at what point do we say that this plan has been a failure? What is the deadline?"

This program aired on April 6, 2012. The audio for this program is not available.
