Walt Disney To Women: Thanks, But No Thanks

Our Nov. 21 hour with Rebecca Sugar hit big on the fact that the 26-year-old cartoonist is the first woman to head a show on the 20-year-old Cartoon Network. Her show, "Steven Universe," debuted this month to rave reviews and promising future plot lines.

Sugar is quick to brush off attempts to call her a trailblazer and the like, but she's also rather lucky that she didn't try to make it in the animation world of the 1930s. An infamous letter, posted below, from the Disney Company to Mary Ford of Searcy, Arkansas in June of 1938 noted that "Women do not do any of the creative work in connection with preparing the cartoons for the screen." Try telling that to Rebecca Sugar.
