The Explicast, Episode Seven: Who Answers Letters To Santa?

This article is more than 5 years old.

Each and every December, hundreds of thousands of children drop carefully crafted letters full of hopes and wishes and dreams into their mailboxes with a simple address: Santa Claus, The North Pole. With proper postage, the post office will deliver the letter as addressed — but what happens next?

As Christmas officially kicks into full gear this month, our weekly spinoff explainer podcast project, The Explicast, used this December opening as an opportunity for a little holiday postal sleuthing.

This week's query? Who answers letters to Santa?

Our source? Pete Fontana, Chief Elf of Operations in the United States Postal Service’s Postal Holidays Division.
