For the first time since 1928, a U.S. president is in Cuba.

President Obama arrived on the island nation Sunday as part of an effort to thaw decades of icy relations between the two countries.

U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern, who is with the president on the trip, joined Morning Edition before he left, and said he hopes the visit will help push Congress to lift the nearly 60-year-old embargo on Cuba.

This segment aired on March 21, 2016.
