Scott Brown Says He Talked With Trump About VA Secretary

Former Massachusetts Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown said Friday that President-elect Donald Trump has spoken with him about a possible cabinet appointment.

Brown told WBUR's Newscast Unit Friday night that the two spoke by phone earlier in the day and that he told Trump he would like to work on veterans' issues.

"He [Trump] said, 'What's your real passion? What do you really think, if I said right now, what?' I said it would have to be the veterans," Brown said.

Brown said he expects another conversation next week about the secretary of veterans affairs position in Trump's administration.

Brown said he would reach out to both Democratic and Republican lawmakers to address veterans' suicides and wait times for health care at Veterans Administration hospitals.

"You know, the Democrat and Republican thing kind of fades away cause this isn't about me and Donald Trump and it's not about the election," Brown said. "It's about men and women killing themselves and people dying in lines."

Brown endorsed Trump before the New Hampshire primary.

Brown served in the U.S. Senate from 2010 until 2013. Current Sen. Elizabeth Warren won the seat over Brown during the 2012 midterm election.
