The Legacy Of The Kennedy Dynasty

With the death of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, a political dynasty passes into history. What has the clan Kennedy meant for our region, for its Irish immigrant population, for Catholics here and around the country and for liberal political tradition in America? Now that the "lion of the Senate" is gone, will Massachusetts' liberalism change?

A team of seven reporters at The Boston Globe who wrote the book, and Peter Canellos, who edited it, talked about "Last Lion: The Fall and Rise of Ted Kennedy (Simon and Schuster, Feb. 17)." The book recounts the life of Sen. Kennedy, from his childhood and familial relations to his political ascendancy and tenure in Congress. Peter Canellos, Washington bureau chief for The Boston Globe, was joined by reporters Jenna Russell, Sam Allis, Bella English, Neil Swidey, Joseph Kahn, Don Aucoin and Susan Milligan in a discussion of the life and career of Massachusetts' senior senator.

Our own David Boeri moderated the discussion at a public forum co-sponsored by WBUR at the Boston Public Library. Watch it here.

This program aired on August 28, 2009. The audio for this program is not available.
