Mass. Economy Up(ish); Right Whale, Right Time; Alice Hoffman On Cancer; Second City On A Hill

Some encouraging news about the Mass. economy this week: jobs, exports, manufacturing are all up. But when will the little guy start to feel it? Answer 1: it's an issue of labyrinthine complexity, depending on myriad macro- and micro-economic factors, so we all just have to wait and see. Answer 2: six months. We have experts ready to argue in both directions.

Dozens of ultra-rare North Atlantic Right Whales gorged themselves on top-notch Massachusetts plankton in Cape Cod Bay recently (as they have a habit of doing very April). But then something funny happened: the scientists who were tracking them...lost them. How do you lose a 50 ft. whale and 70-80 of her closest friends? The good people at the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies tell us.

Cantabrigian bestseller Alice Hoffman is in final prep. for her 10th annual "An Evening with Your Favorite Authors” to benefit breast cancer patients at Mount Auburn Hospital. She reflects on her experience as a cancer survivor and gives us a taste of her new book.

Finally, the legendary Second City takes on the T, Tom Menino, Tom Brady, et al. in a brand new revue. If you're from Boston and you've always wanted someone from Chicago to make fun of you for two hours, you're in luck!

This program aired on April 23, 2010. The audio for this program is not available.
