Since last Memorial Day, 11 service members with ties to Massachusetts have been killed serving in Afghanistan or Iraq.  They include Army Sgt. Robert Barrett of Fall River, Army Maj. Harold Brown of Bolton and Marine Sgt. William Cahir, who once worked as a staffer for the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

Another casualty is Nicholas Xiarhos of Yarmouth, a corporal in the Marine Corps. He had served in Iraq and was deployed to Afghanistan, when, in July 2009, a roadside bomb took his life. He was 21.

We talk with Xiarhos' father, Yarmouth Police Lt. Steve Xiarhos, about his son's service, death and legacy, and about Steve's meeting with President Obama after his son's death.

This program aired on May 31, 2010.
