In the wake of the controversy over a Florida preacher's threat to burn copies of the Quran on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, historian Ted Widmer reviews the long history of the Quran in the United States. He reminds us that many of the country's founding fathers kept personal copies of the sacred book.
