A new investigation by NPR, the Boston Globe, the investigative journalism nonprofit ProPublica and several other media outlets has found that many doctors who are paid by pharmaceutical firms to promote certain drugs are ignoring rules against that kind of freelance work.

The investigation also found that almost half the money paid by pharma companies to Massachusetts doctors went to doctors affiliated with Harvard.
