The Museum of Fine Arts opens its new Art of the Americas wing to the press this week. Nearly 50,000 square feet and ten years in the making, the wing cost the MFA around half a billion dollars.

The local and national buzz surrounding the 53 new galleries is not for naught. The new wing doubles the amount of space available for the MFA's American collection, bringing some pieces of work out of storage for the first time.

We take a closer look at what's at stake for the museum as its new wing opens.
