The media rarely shies from discussing men's health issues such as prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction, but have you ever heard that nearly one-third of women experience pain during sex? That's what a recent study reported.

That figure caught CommonHealth co-host Rachel Zimmerman off-guard. A longtime health journalist, Zimmerman had recently suffered from pain during sex and had undergone a little-known treatment called pelvic floor physical therapy to try to remedy the problem. She decided to write about the issue and her own story. Her courage set off a wave of comments and discussion; it turns out she is far from alone.

We explore the causes of painful sex with two leading experts, and we learn about treatments. We'll be taking your calls and hosting a live web chat during the show hosted by Zimmerman and urogynecologist Dr. Eman Elkadry of Mt. Auburn Hospital.

Guests:

  • Jessica McKinney, physical therapist specializing in pelvic floor dysfunction and women’s health
  • Dr. Samantha Pulliam, associate director of urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery, Massachusetts General Hospital
  • Rachel Zimmerman, health blogger, CommonHealth
