If you're someone who likes to eat out a lot, you've probably noticed that the dominant food trends of the last few years have been defined by the economy.

During the depth of the recession, even the fanciest restaurants in Boston started offering budget prix fixe menus on weeknights.

Now, food-watcher Christine Liu of UrbanSpoon says she's spotted a similar up-and-coming menu trend around Boston: the humble meatball.
