Steve Buckley has been covering sports for the Boston Herald for the last 16 years. he's written a lot of big stories — the Red Sox winning the World Series twice, banner No. 17 for the Celtics, and the Patriots winning the Super Bowl three times.

His biggest story, though, may be a recent column about himself. It was called, "Welcome to My Coming-Out Party," in which he announced he's gay.

Now, this shouldn't be such a big deal — especially in a state that legalized gay marriage almost six years ago.

On the other hand, a good deal of homophobia still infects the sports world, so the decision by a sports columnist to come out was arguably courageous, or at least, not straight-forward.

We'll speak with Buckley about his column and the reaction it received.

Guest:

  • Steve Buckley, columnist, Boston Herald
