DiMasi Co-Defendant Strikes A Deal
ResumeThe trial of former Massachusetts House Speaker Sal DiMasi headed to court Monday in what may prove to be a pivotal development in the case.
One of DiMasi's co-defendants, salesman Joseph Lally, has agreed to plead guilty to conspiring to arrange payments to the former speaker in exchange for DiMasi's support of two multi-million dollar state contracts with Cognos, a local software firm.
Prosecutors claim that if Lally gives them "substantial assistance", they will recommend a jail term of no more than three years. They have also agreed to let Lally keep his house in North Reading and bank accounts totaling $30,000.
