Nathan Louis Jackson's much-lauded play "Broke-ology" tells the story of a working poor family in Kansas City, Kansas, as they come to realize that their ailing patriarch can no longer care for himself.

The Boston premier of the play at the Lyric Stage Company features actor Johnny Lee Davenport in the role of the father; Davenport himself recently went through a similar experience with his own ailing father.

Davenport and his co-star, David J. Curtis, tell us they see "Broke-ology" is part of a wave of "fearless" Boston theater that takes on contemporary American issues.

Guests:

  • Johnny Lee Davenport, actor in the role of William King
  • David J. Curtis, actor in the role of Ennis King
  • 'Broke-ology' begins a month-long run at the Lyric Stage Company Friday at 8 p.m.

This segment aired on March 24, 2011.
