Pay-By-SMS Model Could Work In Boston Taxis

A two-year-old policy requires cabbies in Boston to accept credit cards via one of two expensive — and reportedly unreliable — mobile card swipe systems. The processors extract a hefty fee, so cabbies would much rather take cash.

But new payment technologies offer streamlined systems, like paying by text message. Radio Boston's Adam Ragusea reports such systems have promise, but Boston's cab regulators have concerns.
