The program, run by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, requires participating state and local police share the fingerprints of those in involved in a crime with ICE. In many cases, perpetrators are deported back to their home countries.

To it's supporters, the Secure Communities program insures illegal immigrants that commit crimes are also fairly charged with immigration violations. The program's detractors say the program is too broad and may deter people from reporting a crime.
