Artists Will Compete To Design Bill Russell Statue On City Hall Plaza

The Bill Russell Legacy Committee, members of the Boston Celtics organization, and Mayor Thomas Menino announced Monday that a statue of the former Celtics great will grace Boston City Hall plaza.

They've narrowed down the list of possible artists to three: Fern Cunningham, Ann Hirsch, and Antonio Tobias Mendez will offer competing designs and organizers will name a winner in the spring of 2012.

Each of the three sculptors would bring something different to the project, based on their past work. We've collected some examples.
