Omara Moctar, who goes by the name "Bombino," is a guitarist and singer from the Agadez region of Niger with a cult following all across West Africa.

His rich, trance-like music has hints of the blues and rock and roll, but for the most part it evokes the dramatic desert world he comes from.

Bombino is a Tuareg, a nomadic people who are struggling to hold on to their culture and their independence. And he's the subject of a new film called "Agadez: The Music And The Rebellion," by Boston-based film maker Ron Wyman.

The film is showing Tuesday evening at the Brattle Theatre and Bombino will perform at the Brighton Music Hall in Boston Thursday.

Bombino and members of his band stopped by our studio recently to perform.
