The Rent Is Too Damn High Party founder Jimmy MacMillan would hardly be surprised by this headline in today's Boston Globe: "Rents hit a record high in Hub area."

The median rent for the region inside I-495 is now $1,665, according to new data from Reis Incorporated, a New York firm that tracks rents nationwide.

Northeastern University housing economist Barry Bluestone says the rising rents pose a long-term threat to Boston's economic competitiveness.

Guest:

  • Barry Bluestone, dean, School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs, Northeastern University

This segment aired on July 25, 2011.
