According to Willard Sterne Randall's new biography, Vermont's founding father Ethan Allen was, among other things: a real estate tycoon; a philosopher; a commander of revolutionary forces; and, depending on whether you lived in New Hampshire or New York at the time, a freedom fighter or a terrorist.
