Wind gusts and rainstorms can bring massive power outages and National Grid has been preparing for Hurricane Irene since Wednesday night. New crews will be brought on, especially in areas where the hurricane is expected to hit hardest.

Gov. Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency and asked that residents stock water, flashlights and other emergency supplies at home.

We check in with both National Grid and WBUR's Monca Brady-Myerov for the latest information on how Massachusetts authorities are prepping for the big storm expected to hit Sunday afternoon.

Guests:

  • Amy Zorich, spokeswoman, National Grid
  • Monca Brady-Myerov, WBUR reporter

This segment aired on August 26, 2011.
