Fyodor Dostoevski once said "the degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons."

But what about how a society treats those that are exiting the prisons?

Well one organization that's tried to ease that transition is Boston's Haley House Bakery Cafe.

The Cafe is famous for two things: hiring the formerly incarcerated, and baking up delicious chocolate chip cookies. This week, Haley House celebrates its sixth anniversary.

Radio Boston's summer intern Maddie Newfeld made a recent visit to the Cafe.

This segment aired on August 30, 2011.
