It's official: Joseph Kennedy III is running for Congress, hoping to replace Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), who's retiring from office after 32 years.

The 31-year-old son of former Rep. Joe Kennedy II, and grandson of Robert F. Kennedy announced his candidacy Thursday in an Internet video:

"I've spoken to people from across Massachusetts who believe Washington no longer works for them," Kennedy said in the announcement. "People from Newton to Fall River see a government that's become more interested in stacking the deck than allowing every person a fair chance to play their hand. I want to change that."

Kennedy spent his morning meeting potential voters, starting off in at the Newton Center MBTA stop. WBUR's Fred Thys was there, and will join Radio Boston to talk about what he saw.

Guest:

  • Fred Thys, reporter, WBUR.
