For 50 years, David Grisman has been one of the most prominent folk and bluegrass mandolin players around. He's also a Jewish kid from New Jersey, and back when he was a teen he met a kindred soul named Andy Statman.

Together Grisman and Statman forged a hybrid of bluegrass and traditional Klezmer music that they'll bring to the Somerville Theatre Thursday night as part of the third annual Boston Jewish Music Festival.

Grisman and Statman reside on separate coasts now, but we brought them together to talk about their music and how it has stayed with them both through very different lives.
