Connecticut House Votes To Repeal Death Penalty

After more than nine hours of debate, the Connecticut House of Representatives voted to repeal the state's death penalty Wednesday night, following a similar vote by the state Senate last week.

Governor Dannel Malloy, a Democrat, says he will sign the bill. That will leave New Hampshire and Pennsylvania as the only states in the Northeast that still have the death penalty.

Death penalty opponents are applauding the vote in Connecticut. Among them is Richard Dieter, who heads the Death Penalty Information Center in Washington D.C. He joined Radio Boston to discuss what this means and the future of the death penalty in the U.S.
