Racist Tweets Mar Capitals-Bruins Play Off Series

Joel Ward of the Washington Capitals scored the winning goal of Game 7 against the Bruins Wednesday night, which knocked the Bruins out the play-offs.

Bruins fans at the Garden were gracious about the loss. But on Twitter, it was a different story. Ward is black, and moments after the game, racist tweets spread over social media.

Ward told USA Today:

"I think it is just kids. It has no effect on me whatsoever. I've been playing this game long enough and I've not had any encounters of that nature. [The tweets were] shocking to see, but it didn't ruin my day."

The Bruins released a statement saying responding to the incident:

"The Bruins are very disappointed by the racist comments that were made following the game last night. These classless, ignorant views are in no way a reflection of anyone associated with the Bruins organization."

Most of the accounts responsible for the offensive tweets have since been deleted. What does this sore loser reaction say about Bruins' or Hockey fans? Or this just the internet at it's worst.
