Legendary violinist and longtime Boston University professor Roman Totenberg has died at the age of 101.

Totenberg was a global superstar on his instrument from an early age, but experienced a second wave of fame though his daughter, NPR legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg.

Boston University had gotten in the habit of throwing Totenberg tribute concerts when he turned 90, 95 and then 100. Radio Boston's Adam Ragusea produced a piece about Totenberg on the occasion of his 100th birthday concert in 2010.
