We want to take a minute to tip our hats to Frederick Ciampa, the owner of the Same Old Place pizzeria in Jamaica Plain, which has been a landmark on Centre Street since 1977. Ciampa passed away suddenly on Sunday at the age of 69.

Former Radio Boston reporter Adam Ragusea visited Same Old Place two years ago to talk to Fred and his son Eric about his authentic New York-style recipe and the secret ingredients of their special. "If we give you the recipe, we're going to shoot you," Fred joked. "Well, I'm willing to pay that price," Adam responded. He never did manage to get the secret ingredient out of Ciampa, so we'll just have to keep experimenting at home.

Funeral services for Fred Ciampa are being held tomorrow morning, July 26, at 9 a.m. at St. Dennis Church in Westwood. The burial will follow at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.

This segment aired on July 25, 2012.
