Cambridge-Native Mindy Kaling's New Show Debuts

Comic actress, writer, producer and director Mindy Kaling is best known for her Emmy-nominated work on "The Office."  But she has a new television show, "The Mindy Project," which debuts Tuesday night on Fox.

The program stars Kaling as an obstetrician/gynecologist, an occupation she has intimate knowledge of through her mother, who worked as an OB/GYN at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton while Kaling was growing up.

Last year, Radio Boston's Meghna Chakrabarti interviewed Kaling about her New York Times bestselling book, "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?  (And Other Concerns)."
