The seventh annual HONK! Festival will kick off in Somerville's Davis Square this Friday.

The festival will continue throughout the weekend, expanding out to the Somerville parks and neighborhoods surrounding Davis Square on Saturday and ending with a parade that travels through Harvard Square in Cambridge on Sunday.

HONK! is a non-profit celebration of activism through music populated by volunteer players. It was founded by members of The Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band - a group that started spontaneously with a handful of players protesting the Iraq War on the Boston Common back in 2003. The festival has grown its line-up and popularity throughout the years, and this year, it will feature 34 bands from across the country as well as from Canada and Italy — with more than 670 musicians.
