This article is more than 7 years old.

Friday's natural gas explosion in Springfield damaged 42 buildings and was the result of a utility worker who — having responded to a call about a gas odor — accidentally punctured a high-pressure pipeline.

Last week, Beth Daly of The Boston Globe reported on a recent Boston University study that found that the city is peppered with more than 3,300 gas leaks.

Could a blast such as what happened in Springfield happen in Boston just as easily? Is the pipeline infrastructure in our city adequate? To explore these questions and more, Nathan Phillips — lead researcher of the BU study on Boston's gas leaks — joins Radio Boston.
