If the last 12 months are anything to go by, New England should consider itself very lucky: art enthusiasts were treated to a veritable visual feast, from exhibitions featuring local, emerging young artists to retrospectives of bygone eras and monumental masters — not to mention the unveiling of several state-of-the-art gallery renovations.

The Boston Globe's Pulitzer-Prize-winning art critic, Sebastian Smee, joins us to share his highlights of 2012.
