The 25th Anniversary edition of the Boston Globe 100 Magazine will be released in its entirety on Sunday, but today we're seeing a preview of the top five Massachusetts-based companies.

There are, of course, some perennial powerhouses like TJX Companies of Framingham, which has ranked in the top 10 on a dozen of the globe lists — but making its debut at number one this year is the Springfield-based firearms manufacturer and designer, Smith & Wesson.
