Congress Hears "Lessons Learned" In Boston Bombings

In Washington D.C., House and Senate Homeland Security committees held two hearings on law enforcement, counter-terrorism, and lessons learned from the Boston bombings.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis testified before the Senate committee, where he talked about logistical and cultural barriers that inhibit information sharing between local and federal law enforcement officials.

WBUR, "His arm in a cast and his face swollen, a blase-looking Dzhokhar Tsarnaev pleaded not guilty Wednesday in the Boston Marathon bombing in a seven-minute proceeding that marked his first public appearance since his capture in mid-April. As victims of the bombing looked on, Tsarnaev, 19, gave a lopsided smile to his sisters upon arriving in the courtroom. He appeared to have a jaw injury and there was swelling around his left eye and cheek."

Boston Police Department, "The community plays one of the most important roles in our Nation’s fight against terrorism. They contributed to the success, efficiency and safe resolution of the investigation by providing videos, photographs, information and sheltering in place. Law enforcement needs to continue to seek opportunities and new ways to encourage dialogue and cooperation with the community as we look to stop violent extremists."
